We're BAAAAAAACK!!!!!

Wow alot has happened since we last wrote and I can't even remember all the fosters that have gone through here.
Our last foster became a member of our family. His name is Mr. Sparky and he was an owner surrender. He had a bad allergy going
affecting his skin.

He was at a humane society and they weren't sure where to start with him. So Westie Rescue of Missouri took Sparky and we ran to pick him up(Aug. 15th,2009). All of the red was so hot to touch and his poor legs were so swollen. His ears were yeasty and he had an odor to him.

He went to the vet and got eye meds, ear meds, antibotics, special medicated shampoo. We put him on a good quality dogfood and baths three times a week with his medicated shampoo. Before long Mr. Sparky was growing hair. And before you knew it he had wormed his way into the family's heart. It took alot of baths and 4 rounds of antibotics, before he was declared healthy.

Look at him...he's so hairy!!!! YEAH!!!!!!! Some days he sleeps alot but then there are days he wants to play and he plays hard!!!! He loves to get a good rolling in the snow. He is just too funny and has become Daddy's boy. He only tolerates me because I feed him when Daddy isn't home.He became a Wigglebutt on January 15th, 2010. And he is so happy.

We love the senior rescues.

Some of the other fosters that came here in 2009 were Scottie . He was an owner surrender. He was sure a sweet boy and he was adopted and now spoiled in an addition by a country club in Missouri...lucky guy! He loves to travel with his new Mom and he has quite a few road miles. He is so loved by all the family!!!!!!!

Next came a sweet little girl named Kelsey.

She was a little live wire.

She found a wonderful home with a family that had lost a westie and their other one was so lonely. The Dad wanted a westie who would sit with him late at night while he watched TV. Well, Kelsey fit the bill and then some. They are so head over heels in love with her. She's such a lucky girl!!!!!!!

Well next came Mr. Sparky and you just read about him.

The end of December there was a westie in a shelter that doesn't have too great of reputation. So we headed over there to pick him up. His name was changed to Fergie. At first we got along great. But then he statrted having issues with eating and Petey. Several squirmishes broke out and in getting Pettey and Fergie apart Herb and I both got bit. Okay we chalked it up everyone trying to settle in. Then we had issues with eating. I tried the method that most dog behavorists recommend and I ended up with a dogbite. I was so upset and was very unsure about him. His moods switched off and on like a light switch.

He loved sitting with me and followed me everywhere when he was in a good mood. We hung in for almost 3 weeks and then the decision was made to take him back to the humane society. When ever I called to see how he was doing I didn't get much of an answer. So I gave up. To this day it breaks my heart. We had our handicapped great niece coming home for Christmas and with his ever changing moods and lashing out I had to make that decision. It took me a long time to get over it and I still have flashes of guilt that I let Fergie down. Rescue work is very hard.

Well that's it for now. The Wigglebutts are demanding supper. I'll post again later.
Happy reading and remember.........

Good morning!!!!

We have had a busy weekend. We went and picked up our new foster. She is out of a puppymill and is 3 1/2 years old. We named her Callie Rose. She is a sweetheart and very smart. It has taken her 1 and 1/2 days to figure out no potty in the house. She is now playing with the others. She has figured out the steps up and down. What a gal she is!

She came in with an awful haircut and ears folded over....

So with a bit of time and lots of loving, we managed to quickly trim the hair off the ears and the visor look off her face. She is beautiful underneath. So later we will give a better trim.

Callie will be available for adoption at http://www.westierescueofmissouri.com/

Sunday afternoon we had a very very strong thunderstorm go through.....60 to 70 mph winds, hail, and lots of heavy rain. Here at our house not much damage. But lots of others in the city had lots of tree damage. Big trees uprooted and some lost small sheds. We lost electricity for 5 hours. It was an amazing storm that as it traveled through the state left lots of damage in it's wake.

So we're back to humid and hot weather....well it is summer.

So that's all for now......we'll keep you updated on this wonderful little rescue named Callie!!!!!!!

Wow...it's been a long time

I should introduce the newest member of our family. Toby is now 14 years and almost 8 months old. He was 12 years old when he came into rescuein October 2006. What a mess the poor guy was. He had a tick born illness and a very very bad yeast infection on his body. He was smelly and goopy. When he came here we put him on special dog food and he was all kinds of medicine and special shampoos. It took us a while but Toby is doing so much better. In March of 2007 we realized that no one was going to adopt him. He is such a wonderful and sweet older boy. So he gladly became ours.

I'm still doing rescuing and fostering. Sadly Smoke had to find a new home....he was very bossy with Princess and picked fights with her and Sassy would join in and Smoke backed out. Sassy is very obsessive and would continue the fight. Poor Princess was badly injured. But Smoke has a wonderful home with a vet and he goes to work with her everyday.
He is very very spoiled. But I get my Scottie fix by fostering one every now and then. Just recently it was a very sweet and energetic 8 week old puppy. We named her Luci Lu. We had her about a month and she is now residing in Wisconsin and very spoiled in her new home.

......

We foster a westie that was named AJ...what a character he was. DJay loved to play with him. AJ could out run DJay and then some. We finally found him a wonderful home in Minnesota. They renamed him Quinn and he is having the time of his life

The end of June we went to a Meet and Greet. You see we belong to Dogster and a group called Westies Unite. A bunch of us got together in Wentzville, MO. We had so much fun meeting each other. We had about about 17 westies, one bulldog, one Scottie pup, and one lab mix pup.
What a great bunch of pups!!!!! and of course the owners, too!!!!!!!!!
Well. I think that catches me up. Other than my Mom passed away on October 13th, 2007. It was a very big loss for me and even the westies miss her. Toby liked going visiting to the nursing home to see her and her friends.
Well, we're getting ready to welcome another little westie into foster. We'll post pictures of her when we get them.
Take care and remember....Life is too short.....enjoy what you have now.

Smoke news

Smoke is now almost 9 months old. He is quite the character...on the go and full of energy.
He has now learned to climb the steps on a kiddie slide...

and then sit at the top and wait for a treat...

sorry about the big butt shot...

He did slide down the slide...but the camera wasn't fast enough to catch the shot. Now he sits up there and waits to see if he is going to get a treat...oh my...what a guy!!!!

Smoke won the first photo contest that he has ever entered. It was the Terrier Club Best of Show for September.
The name of the picture was called...You called?
Of course Smoke was just jumping up and down and running in circles cause he was so excited.

Well, so far that's Smoke's latest news...I'm sure there will be more.
Thanks for visitng.

Boy is it cold

MySpace Layouts

We think fall is here already. It was in the 50's today and we all wanted to snuggle under blankets. That means winter is around the corner.
Things have been fairly quiet around here. No new fosters knocking at the door right now...but you know there is always one heading this way.
We just wanted to check in and say hi. Hope the temps are not too hot or too cold for you.
As you can see Mom has too much time on her hands...but they do look kind of cool don't they? Never know what Mom is going to find now...

THANKS FOR VISITING!!!!!!

We've been busy!!!!!!

The only thing happening around here is more rescuing and fostering.
Mom got a phone call one day and a sweet cairn needed to stop over at our bed and breakfast overnight until the next leg of her journey was ready. Her name was Sammie and such a sweet girl she was. She was on her way to back to her foster mom's. She had gone to her forever home and for some reason they couldn't keep her. So she had flown part way back and was going the rest of the way to her foster mom by car. It was a joy to have her visit.

Our next foster was Amy. She was an owner release. The couple tried to find a place that would allow them to have their beloved westie girl...but they didn't have any luck. So Amy came into rescue. She was a very sweet girl who was very unhappy with the change. But she gradually settled down and has a wonderful home in Missouri with a single lady. Amy gets to go to work with her new Mom at an assisted living home. She really enjoys her work.

Our next foster was Danika. She was a two year old breeder released. She was all puppy. She enjoyed exploring and running and playing. She loved to sneak the keys out of our Dad's pockets. Her favorite pasttime was wrestling with Smoke. She showed the pups how to take shortcuts when playing zoom around the rooms. She is full of life and enjoying her new forever home. Her Mom has recently enrolled her in puppy classes and she is having fun. Her Mom is going to train her in aglity and that will be right up Dani's alley.

Our last foster...so far...was a sweet retired breeder named Jenny. She was so mild. She wasn't sure what love was and by the time she found her new forever home she understood that people have lots of love to give. She took some work to help her understand and trust that she was going to have a much better life. She is enjoying herself in Illinois. She is going to be an awesome companion.

Life is always happening around here. We had our 3 year old granddaughter for a couple of weeks and that was so much fun. Smoke loved her to pieces. He was always following her where ever she went. He loved helping her play with the race cars . It's hard to believe that Smoke is now 7 months old. He enjoys being a little terrier to all of his westie siblings. He just wants to play, play, and PLAY. The rest of the gang are all doing wonderfully. Petey and Princess want to rest and lay around...the true couch potatoes. Sassy, DJay, and Smoke are the ones who love to zoom and carry on. There is never a dull moment around here and I wouldn't have it any other way.
The breeder that I was working with to get westie and scotties from is now out of the business. I got what I could from him and he sold the rest. The new owner does have my name so I'm hoping to still be able to get the retirees and get them into new forever homes. I still have one scottie breeder that I get her retirees from. They come with health issues and ungroomed. So I am hoping to be able to help more and more retirees from her.

Our family is doing well. The husband was released from his doctor after 10 weeks of recovering from surgery. And now he is training at a new job. Angela continues to be seizure free. It's hard to believe that she has lived with us for almost 10 years and that she turns 16 years old in October. She is in a different school and has accepted the change well. She is enjoying going on all the field trips that they do. She has a new para, also and that she loves...she can try all her tricks that everyone else knows about. Angela is so smart...it's o sad that she can't express it. So things are looking better around here. Life is to be enjoyed and that I am doing. Life is also helping others and I'm hoping I am doing that by being a volunteer rescuer for westies, scotties, cairns, and any other canine that crosses my life path.
Always remember...second hand dogs RULE!!!!!!!!

Happy Springtime

What a beautiful time of the year. Hope you are having a wonderful spring.

Our last foster was a very skittish nine year old westie gal named Shelby. She was retired from having puppies...only because her last litter had to be delivered by C-section and all died. She was so scared of the big wide open spaces. It took us a very long time to get her to understand that we were going to love her. Our biggest accomplishment was to get her to eat out of a bowl with the rest of my gang. It took almost 3 weeks with a few set backs. But she finally realized she was safe and soon got excited about mealtime and would come running for her supper. She slept in bed with us only because she would throw a fit about being in a crate. She soon became a snuggle bug.
But our bed also became a safe haven for her. But she progressed to the point that we knew she was ready for a family all her own. And the right one came along. She is now happily residing in Ohio. We met her new parents in Joliet, Illinois. What a spoiled gal she will become.

We don't have any fosters at the moment. April 8th, we did go on a run and got three more retired breeders...2 females and one male. There are currently in foster homes with one soon to be going to her new home. The breeder keeps telling me that he is going to retire soon. He is 70 years old and he is getting tired. So we shall see.

The breeder did call me on April 24th. He had a scotty pup that was born with no tail. He wanted to know if I wanted him...but they wanted money for him and I couldn't come with the amount he wanted. So he said he was sure he could sell him. I sadly said okay. One week later he called me again. This time he was going to give me thescottie...for me. He didn't want him in rescue. So we now have a 16 week old scottie puppy. He is such a cutie...his name is Smoke...after Nascar driver Tony Stewart.
He is full of energy and loves to pick on my westie gang.

Here is what Sassy thinks of him...
